Burnie: Right, so let’s do the next batch of RT vines. So Gavin, one’s about how big your dick is and in the next one I’m going to take your shirt off.

GEOFF: Well that was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen.
RAY: What happened?
GEOFF: I was just talking to you and suddenly a guy fell out of the sky.
GEOFF: Sorry Michael, I was dealing with the fact that once again, completely and totally randomly-
MICHAEL: Ryan stealing shit?
GEOFF: Very luckily caught Ryan.
|So let me get this straight. Tumblr demands that RT/AH put warnings for offensive content and even when they do put a warning ,from what I heard they had a warning at the beginning and lets not forget that CAH should be a big enough red flag for offensive humor, tumblr still gets offended?|
This statement is completely accurate. They said it several times throughout the hour-long stream as well.
"I got creamed mom!"
For those wondering, Rooster Teeth provided a warning at the start of their CAH game saying that if anyone is easily offended by the stuff they say that they shouldn’t watch that particular video. People are always saying they need to add trigger warnings and they actively WARNED people.
Now, on to a more specific subject. I’m hearing people getting offended over the phrase “don’t watch if it offends you”. This IS a valid thing to say to people who are hurt by Rooster Teeth’s words.
And part of my studies involving counselling and stuff discusses that sometimes people will purposefully put themselves in harm’s way despite the fact that they know the situation they put themselves in is going to hurt them.
IF ROOSTER TEETH ARE SAYING SOMETHING THAT IS ACTIVELY HURTING YOU THAT MUCH, YOU SHOULD STOP WATCHING THEM.
And no, it’s not because people want you to stop complaining about them, that’s just paranoia speaking. Watching content that you KNOW is going to otherwise offend or hurt your feelings IS A FORM OF SELF HARM.
You are purposefully watching a group of people that you know will say something to hurt your feelings. There is a line to be drawn here, and while you are entitled to be offended, and you are entitled to be hurt, when people tell you to stop watching, they’re not telling you to shut up, they’re not telling you that you’re a bad fan, they’re not telling you that you’re anything, those people telling you to stop watching ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR WELLBEING.
We don’t tell you to stop watching so you’ll stop complaining about RT. You are more than entitled to constructively criticise the way that RT and AH are presenting themselves. But when you knowingly engage yourself in content that you KNOW will hurt you, YOU are hurting yourself and YOU are putting yourself in a situation that you do NOT need to be in.
Step One: Ween yourself off them if they are hurting you THAT much. Watch less videos.
Step Two: Completely stop watching.
Step Three: Go about your recovery process, whether it’s speaking to your counsellor/therapist, drinking hot chocolate or staying offline for a little bit.
Step Four: Calmly and with passion, write a formal complaint and send it to Rooster Teeth detailing exactly what the problem is. Do it in a professional manner, they will take you more seriously.
Step Five: If you are feeling better and want to risk it, slowly let yourself watch some of their content again. If the situation occurs again and you aren’t feeling happy with their stuff, refer back to Step One.
(Reccommended) Step Six: If their content continue to harm you and they don’t show any signs of changing any time soon, SERIOUSLY consider not watching them anymore. Putting yourself in a situation to get hurt is classed as self harm and unforetunately, when you choose to do that, the person putting you in that situation is not them anymore, it is you. And you need to seriously consider cutting yourself off from harmful content like them if it persists to harm your feelings.
